Beer-Battered Fish and Chips

Ingredients

750 g fish fillets (e.g. cod)
160 g flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp turmeric
200 ml pale beer
chip oil
2 lemons
chips

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, baking powder, salt and turmeric in a bowl.
  2. Make a well in the middle and slowly stir in the beer.
  3. Cover the batter and leave to rest in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  4. Wash the fish, pat dry and cut into large-ish pieces.
  5. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Dust the fish in pieces in flour in a bowl, and then coat in the batter.
  7. Deep fry the fish until golden brown.
  8. Serve with chips and lemons.
